At DOERS NOT VIEWERS, our vision is to empower communities to take action rather than stand by. We strive to provide individuals with essential tools and life-saving knowledge to help stop blood loss during emergency situations when EMS has not yet arrived. We believe, “We have to be our own first responders.”
We envision communities where empathy for human life is restored, positive relationships are strengthened, and education inspires people to respond with compassion and courage. Our hope is to help break cycles of hatred and violence and foster safer environments where future generations are given the opportunity to grow, thrive, and live in peace.
Our mission is to equip and mobilize individuals within our communities to take life-saving action during emergency situations. DOERS NOT VIEWERS provides hands-on education, training, and resources that teach individuals how to recognize traumatic injuries and stop blood loss when professional medical help has not yet arrived.
Guided by the belief, “We have to be our own first responders” – J. E. C., we work to prepare everyday citizens with practical skills that can save lives. Through community partnerships, outreach programs, and direct engagement, we create safe learning environments that encourage responsibility, unity, and preparedness.
By empowering individuals with knowledge and confidence, we actively support violence prevention efforts and promote stronger, safer, and more connected communities.

Our Story
DOERS NOT VIEWERS was founded on January 4, 2023, by Joshua Emanuel Chisolm following a life-changing moment that revealed both the urgency and the power of community action. While in an urban neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joshua witnessed a drive-by shooting. Without hesitation, he courageously rushed to assist the victim and transported him to the emergency room, helping to save his life. That experience ignited Joshua’s passion to educate and empower others to respond during emergencies rather than stand by as spectators.
Tragically, on August 3, 2023, Joshua’s life was taken by a senseless act of gun violence at just 32 years old. In a heartbreaking turn, there was no one present to provide him with the same immediate life-saving aid he once gave to someone else.
Today, DOERS NOT VIEWERS continues in Joshua’s honor — carrying forward his vision, compassion, and courage. His legacy lives through our commitment to equipping communities with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to respond in critical moments and help save lives.
